MONTGOMERY, Ala — The Lady Eagles (4-4) began their home campaign this weekend in the Faulkner Invitational and were victorious in three of their four contests. Faulkner defeated Webber International (Fla.) 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18; Brenau (Ga.) 25-14, 25-21 ,25-15 and Bryan (Tenn.) 25-13,25-13,25-21 before falling to Central Methodist (Mo.) 18-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-18.

Faulkner troubled Webber international Friday afternoon with its strong serving. The hosts scattered nine aces throughout the lineup. The Warriors, conversely, committed nine service errors. Emily Bowen led the field with 15 kills. Daijah Washington and Kortney Barnes paced the Eagles with 12 kills each.

The serving clinic continued Friday night against Brenau with eight aces recorded, seven of which were between the two setters, Katie Musser and Alyssa Stagner. Barnes dismantled the Golden Tigers collecting 13.5 points between her nine kills, six blocks and four aces.

The Lady Eagles defense held the Lions in check Saturday afternoon limiting the visitors to 21 kills in the match. Bryan's cold hitting, -.018 as a team, was costly against the Eagles who played a solid team match in the sweep. Kirsten Carter picked up 10 kills in the outing.

Central Methodist was able to break the Lady Eagles hot streak Saturday night after the home side took the first set. Poor hitting cost the Lady Eagles dearly in the second and third sets. On the other side of the net, the visiting Eagles' attack could not be stopped. Mariana Do Nascimento killed 17 of her 25 attempts for a .640 average. Four other guests recorded double-digit kills, including Viviane Viana and Jane Kickham who both recored double-doubles.

Musser tallied 87 assists on the weekend, while Stagner contributed 50.

Julianne Wilkes picked up 72 digs in the tournament.

The Faulkner Invitational saw 10 teams compete in 20 matches over the past two days in Tine Davis Gymnasium and the Freeman-Harrison Multiplex. Southeastern and Central Methodist went 4-0 on the weekend.

The Lady Eagles will next travel to Marietta, Georgia for the Running Eagles Classic hosted by Life University. Opponents will include St. Andrews University, Reinhardt, College of Coastal Georgia, and Life University. The first match is scheduled for Friday at 12:00 p.m.
