Poor First Half Too Much to Overcome

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala — Point (1-0-1) used a three goal burst in the first 25 minutes to subdue Faulkner (0-2) here at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium tonight 4-2.

Following a lightning delay less than two minutes into the contest, the Skyhawks struck first when a corner attempt got past the defense to the far post and Koen Vos smashed the ball into the top netting.

Point's through balls were unstoppable leading to two goals for the visitors in an 80 second span. Noah Elam whipped a ball from the right side perfectly to Juan Gomez who timed his run beautifully and converted his one-on-one opportunity in the 23rd minute.

In the 24th, Gomez picked up an assist when he found Pablo Acebron alone on top of the penalty box. Acebron tucked the shot in the bottom right corner to balloon the scoreline to 3-0.

Faulkner came alive late in the first half when Dave Chesterman fired a shot from the left side of the box near the sideline into the opposite corner to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the 41st minute.

In the 75th minute, Skyhawk goalkeeper Brin Lapuh took down Joshua Adentunji in the box for a penalty. Guilherme Mondaini calmly place the shot to the right past the leftward diving keeper to bring the Eagles within 1.

With seconds ticking away in the contest and the home team looking for the late equalizer, a costly Faulkner turnover in front of its own goal allowed a point blank shot for Pablo Vela to convert and end the game.

Caio Calado (0-2) stopped four shots and allowed all four goals.

Both sides put eight shots on target in the contest.

The Eagles will look for their first win on Friday in Nashville when they face the Fisk Bulldogs. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
