Lady Eagles sweep the day, earn first ever win over Coastal Georgia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MARIETTA, Ga. — Faulkner (7-5) only needed seven sets to pick up two wins this afternoon here at the Running Eagles Classic by knocking off Coastal Georgia 25-13, 26-24, 25-17 for the program's first victory in 13 tries against the Mariners, and carried that momentum into the final match of the weekend against the hosts and defeated Life 18-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18.

Faulkner turned dominated Coastal Georgia at the net today. The front row picked up 10 blocks and forced the Mariners into 29 attack errors and an attacking percentage of .066. Tori Marchant paced the wall with four and a half blocks. When the ball would get past the front line, Julianne Wilkes was most often the one to the attack, picking up 20 digs. Katie Musser was one dig away from a double double with 15 assists and nine scoops. Krystalynn Leomiti and Kirsten Carter were ruthless attacking the ball, recording 10 and eight kills, respectively.

11 errors cost the Lady Eagles in the first set against the Running Eagles, but the visitors regrouped before the second set and only scattered 10 more through the remaining three sets.

Musser found the double double that had narrowly avoided her in the earlier match with 19 assists and 16 digs. Leomiti barely missed out on the accolade in this match with nine kills and 12 digs. Marchant tied Leomiti for points in the match with 11.

One statistic that has been fairly telling with how a match will go for Faulkner is service aces. When the Lady Eagles pick up at least five aces, they are 5-2. When they pick up four or fewer, the record drops to 2-3. "We are a tough serving team," head coach Tori Bartels said. We try to keep teams out of their system with our serve."

"We had a great day," Bartels said. "We competed on every ball. Today, we played with a different attitude and finally found our killer instinct."

Faulkner will travel to West Point, Ga. to face the Point Skyhawks on Friday at 4:30. The Lady Eagles fell in five sets to the Skyhawks earlier this season.
