Box Score Faulkner turned a nine-point halftime deficit into an afterthought Saturday afternoon as it outpaced Florida College by 17 points over the final 20 minutes for 98-90 road win.
""That was a big come from behind win for us," Faulkner Head Coach Scott Sanderson said.
The Eagles' hot shooting performance included 47.1 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from beyond the arc. Faulkner also notched 21 assists on 33 made baskets in the game.
"We're shooting the ball better. We're moving the ball better. When you're hitting shots, it's amazing how much that helps your defense," Sanderson said.
Garrett Sanderson (SO/Montgomery, Ala.)'s led the way with a career high 31 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. Rene Scott (JR/Mobile, Ala.) finished with 24 points. C.J. Jones (JR/Port Richey, Fla.) scored 17 while Milan Skundric (JR/Negotin, Serbia) tallied 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
"We shot the ball really well. Garrett played terrific the whole game. Rene was unbelievable," Scott Sanderson explained. "In the first half, C.J. didn't play particularly well but we went small in the second half and he jumped up and hit five threes for us late in the game."
Matt Simpson paced Florida College with 21 points while Stefan Nakic-Vojnovic had 18. Kent Hegarty scored 16 points. Andrew Voss and Zach Brock put up 14 apiece. Florida College shot 50 percent from the floor and 41.4 percent from three while also winning the rebounding battle but 18 turnovers helped fuel the Eagle offense. The Falcons saw a 50-41 halftime lead evaporate as they hit only three of 14 attempts from deep over the game's final 20 minutes.
"They were 9 for 15 from three the first half. We were trying to take their threes away and we did a horrible job. The second half, they only made three threes. I think we extended it out a little better," Scott Sanderson said.
Faulkner (12-6, 5-5 SSAC) returns home Monday to host Middle Georgia State at 7:30 p.m. The game will mark the third in five nights for the Eagles.
"We're going to practice tomorrow after church. We're really just going to watch film and walk through things and not do much from a physical standpoint. We've got to be conscious of our guys legs," Sanderson said.
