Lady Eagles overwhelm Blue Mountain for road win

Box Score

"It's really exciting. There's always silver linings in clouds. The silver lining right now is that we're able to play freshmen big minutes. You see some of the inconsistencies of that, but you're also able to see the development of that. Is it going to take us far into the postseason this year? We'll see. But you can definitely see where they're getting better." "I thought we did a good job blocking them out. We rotated our post players and they all had good energy. Obviously, very, very happy with how Olivia rebounded it today. And Valentina rebounded it very well. We were able to hold them to one shot on most possessions. We also held them to a really low field goal percentage," Faulkner Head Coach Reed Sutton said. "For us, when we can hold people to a low field goal percentage and we can rebound well, we can play with anybody." Faulkner built an early lead and finished strong Saturday afternoon to preserve a 59-47 road win over Blue Mountain.

The Lady Eagles shot 40.7 percent from the floor and 25.9 percent from deep in the game while dominating the rebound battle to the tune of 53-31. The Faulkner defense also locked down Blue Mountain, limiting the Lady Toppers to 21.9 percent shooting from the floor and forcing 47 missed BMC shots in the game.

Faulkner saw a trio of freshmen lead the way in scoring. Micala Fisanick (FR/Troy, Ala.) set the pace with a game high 15 points. Olivia Colson (FR/Thompson's Station, Tenn.) added 14 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Valentina Klocker (FR/Salzburg, Austria) had 10 points. Ashlyn Adkins (SO/Locust Fork, Ala.) chipped in nine points along with 6 rebounds and four assists. Kayla Key (JR/Hartselle, Ala.) tallied eight points and 10 rebounds.

"It's really exciting. There's always silver linings in clouds. The silver lining right now is that we're able to play freshmen big minutes," Sutton said of running out a lineup that was absent Angela Grant (FR/Hoover, Ala.). "You see some of the inconsistencies of that, but you're also able to see the development of that. Is it going to take us far into the postseason this year? We'll see. But you can definitely see where they're getting better."

Olivia Chadwell scored 11 points to lead Blue Mountain while Alexis Taylor had 10.

Faulkner (12-9, 5-7 SSAC) returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Martin Methodist.
