Cold shooting negates 24 turnover defensive performance

Box Score

Balmy shooting to the tune of 25 percent from the floor sunk Faulkner Thursday night in Dalton, Ga. in a 67-55 loss to SSAC foe Dalton State, despite forcing the Roadrunners into 24 turnovers. Following a 9-0 start, the Eagles have now dropped four straight contests and sit 1-3 in league play.

Faulkner jumped to a 13-5 advantage just six minutes into play, but could not unseal the basket for the next five allowing the hosts to take the lead. The two sides traded leads until 5:05 left in the first half when Randy Bell put Dalton State ahead for good.

Throughout the contest, the Eagles missed 54 shots as even the most consistent scoring threats struggled to find their shot. Rene Scott (JR/Mobile, Ala.), who entered the night shooting 45 percent and averaging 26.6 an outing converted just one of his 14 efforts tonight from the floor. Garrett Sanderson (SO/Montgomery, Ala.) failed to tally a point in 24 minutes of play. C.J. Jones (JR/Port Richey, Fla.) lead the floor with 16 points. Adnan Halilovic (SR/Mali Zvornik, Serbia) added 11 and Milan Skundric (JR/Negotin, Serbia) 10. Halilovic found his second double-double in as many games with 10 rebounds.

"We have to turn those turnovers into baskets," head coach Scott Sanderson said. "We talked all week about getting out in transition and scoring the ball. We just didn't convert the chances into baskets. We have to score in transition and off offensive rebounds. The biggest problem is we go 18-72, 54 missed shots, and we only get 11 offensive rebounds. If we collect more, we get putbacks and score easy baskets. We're just not scoring in any way."

The Eagles had been averaging nearly 88 points a game before this four game losing streak and have averaged 68.75 during.

"We played so well for nine games and our confidence level was so high and we lost some games and it's snowballed. I'm more concerned with how we're playing now. We have to get back to scoring in different ways." The Eagles will try to steer out of the skid Saturday in Pulaski, Tenn. against the Martin Methodist RedHawks. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
