Offense shines in Saturday's two match sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

In a stark contrast to the genre of match seen Friday night, Faulkner used strong offense and the block to sweep the Faulkner Tri-Match Saturday in Tine Davis Gymnasium, knocking off Loyola in an SSAC crossover match 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-23) and Talladega (25-10, 25-16, 25-14).

Faulkner 3, Loyola 0

The Lady Eagles jumped to early leads in each set, proving to be too much for even the strongest Wolf Pack comeback efforts to overcome. Faulkner started the sets on runs of 13-2, 10-3 and 10-2 respectively. Tori Bartels's side hit 20.3% in the match on 48 kills while holding Loyola to just 6.5%.

After the initial run, the deficit was never lower than six in the first set. Loyola climbed back into the match in set two, closing the spread to two at 21-19. Faulkner ended with a 4-1 run to make sure the lead was not compromised. The Wolf Pack tied the set at 23-all in the third set before Faulkner concluded with the next two points to take two points in the conference standings for winning the crossover match.

Alyssa Stagner (SO/Sneads, Fla.) paced the team in both assists and digs with 34 and 17, respectively. Ashley Ingwersen (SR/Huntsville, Ala.) contributed 14 digs. Julianne Wilkes (SR/Deatsville, Ala.) and Alysa Vinson (SO/Pike Road, Ala.) added 10. Vinson completed a double-double with her floor-leading 12 kills. Samantha Morse (SO/Clarkston, Mich.) and Kortney Barnes (JR/Mobile, Ala.) killed 10 points each.

Faulkner 3, Talladega 0

This all-Alabama battle was controlled start to finish by the ladies from the capital city. The bench starred in the contest accounting for 22 of the team's 34 kills. The Lady Eagles held the Tornadoes to a -2.8 attack percentage while hitting 28% themselves. Bartels's team blocked 10 Talladega efforts and hit six aces.

After opening with an 8-8 start, Faulkner went on a 17-2 run, including 12 straight, to take the first set easily. Despite a lack of noteworthy runs, the Lady Eagles held a comfortable lead throughout the second frame. The match ended on a 7-2 run with a block and four kills.

Madison Sides (SR/Spring Garden, Ala.) led the floor with nine kills. Haven Owings (FR/Wetumpka, Ala.) and Alexis McInroy (FR/Elberta, Ala.) contributed six and five kills, respectively. Wilkes led the floor with 18 of the team's 53 digs. Barnes had seven block assists and one solo block. Stagner fell just one dig shy of a double-double but had 24 assists and three aces.

Faulkner welcomes the Life Running Eagles to Tine Davis Gymnasium for the second time this season Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
