Faulkner's offense remained held in check by one of the nation's elite defenses Thursday night in a 2-0 loss to third-ranked William Carey in Hattiesburg, Miss. 

Tim Doherty put the two-time SSAC champions on the board first in the 11th minute with the match's first shot off a long throw in near the flag in assist from Pablo Valera Vasquez Fraga. Both defenses held tough the rest of the half with just two more shots taken, both by the hosts. 

Two-time defending SSAC Player of the Year Joaquin Ruiz Cabello doubled the Crusader advantage in the 57th off a free kick following an Eagle yellow card. 

While chances were few, Faulkner place three of its four efforts on frame for one of its better shots on goal percentages of the season. Unfortunately for the guests, none found the back of the net as William Carey collected its ninth shutout of the season. 

Despite sitting at 5-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in league play, Kyle Beard's squad knocks on the door of every match. Thursday night's result was just the second time this season they have lost by multiple goals (Sept. 28 at Belmont.) The Eagles look to snap a five match winless streak Saturday at eight-ranked Mobile. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
