Lady Eagles drop 17 threes in blowout win over Oakwood

Box Score

Faulkner trailed for nearly five minutes to start the season before Micala Fisanick (SO/Troy, Ala.) drained the first of 17 Lady Eagle three-pointers en route to a 97-38 victory over Oakwood.

Fisanick's triple ignited a 19-2 Faulkner run that capped the first quarter and spilled into the second. Channing Gafford (JR/Athens, Ala.) knocked down a three to open the second quarter. Two Ashlyn Adkins (JR/Locust Fork, Ala.) threes pushed the run to 32-2 before Alexis Boykin dropped in a bucket to stop the bleeding for a moment. Gafford answered that bucket with eight straight points to run the lead to 42-12. The fireworks continued the rest of the half as the Lady Eagles pushed the lead to 51-14 by half.

Faulkner opened the second half on a 20-4 run to balloon the lead to 53. When Angela Grant (SO/Hoover, Ala.) dropped in a bucket with 9:33 to play, the Lady Eagles were up by 57.

Faulkner had five players score in double figures in the game. Ryann Sylvester (JR/Mobile, Ala.) finished with 15 points. Gafford and Megan Wilkinson (SO/Lumberton, Texas) had 14 while Fisanick chipped in 13. Grant finished with 10 points. Adkins had nine points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Eagles outrebounded Oakwood 56-34. Faulkner shot 50 percent from the floor and 47.2 percent from three. The 17 threes were one shy of a program high. The Lady Eagles hit 18 threes against Talladega Nov. 25, 2014 in a 70-68 loss.

Faulkner (1-0) hosts Pensacola Christian Tuesday at 6 p.m.
