Box Score Faulkner overcame early shooting woes and a penchant for turnovers to beat Oakwood 71-60 in its season opener.
The game saw eight ties and 11 lead changes with Faulkner trailing most of the first half. The Eagles took their first lead of the game with 3:33 left in the first half when Nate Bradley (SR/Concord, N.Y.) connected on a shot for the 24-22 advantage. Oakwood finished the half on a 5-0 run to take a 31-29 lead into halftime.
Faulkner appeared to finally wrest control of the game with 11:55 to play when Trace Hill (SO/Hartselle, Ala.) knocked down back-to-back threes for a seven-point lead. Undaunted, Oakwood embarked upon a 7-0 run to retake the lead at 51-50 with 8:47 to go.
A Milan Skundric (SR/Negotin, Serbia) and-1 started an 8-0 Faulkner run that put the Eagles up to say. The lead grew to 14 with one minute left in the contest.
Bradley paced the Eagles with 17 points while Jamon Moore (SR/Albany, Ga.) added 12 in his Faulkner debut. Garrett Sanderson (JR/Montgomery, Ala.) finished with 11.
Faulkner shot 40 percent from the floor in the second half and forced 24 Oakwood turnovers in the game. The Eagles (1-0) return to action Friday at 2 p.m. when they host Southeastern Baptist in the Jimmy Faulkner Classic.
