Lady Eagles survive scare from Huntingdon

Faulkner won its 13th consecutive match against crosstown foe Huntingdon 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-14, 15-13) Thursday night on the shortest road trip of the season and final nonconference match of the season. Faulkner has not lost to the Hawks since 2004.

Huntingdon took set one with an series of late runs, marking the first set win for the hosts against the Lady Eagles since 2013. Faulkner knotted the match back up with a 7-1 run after trailing 19-18 in set two with kills from four different attackers: Alysa Vinson (SO/Pike Road, Ala.), Kortney Barnes (JR/Mobile, Ala.), Alexis McInroy (FR/Elberta, Ala.) and Mallory Black (SO/Murfreesboro, Tenn.).

A quick 4-0 Hawk advantage in set three would not be toppled giving Huntingdon a 2-1 match lead. The Lady Eagles fired back in the fourth set with 15 kills, four blocks and an ace to win the most dominant set of the evening and force the decisive frame.

Traling 9-8 in the race to 15, Faulkner rattled off five straight points bookended by kills from Black. The Hawks scratched back into the set with four of the next five points to serve down 14-13, but a kill from Daijah Washington (SR/Tallahassee, Fla.) ended the contest and drew the Lady Eagles back to .500 at 12-12 overall.

Faulkner welcomes William Carey for the SSAC Game of the Week Friday night for senior night. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
