Box Score 2 The Lady Eagles turned exceptional serving and solid blocking into a 1-1 day in the Reinhardt Trimatch knocking off Columbia International 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) before falling to (RV) Reinhardt 3-1 (25-27,25-13, 25-20, 25-20) in Waleska, Ga. Faulkner's 10 aces and 20 blocks between the two matches powered the point scoring.
In the inaugural meeting with Columbia International, the sides were deadlocked at 13-all in the first set. Samantha Morse (SO/Clarkston, Mich.)'s kill and subseqent assisted block and solo block in three straight points sparked a 12-3 run to comfortably seal the opening game. Faulkner killed 15 points in the first set and blocked four Ram attacks.
Five Lady Eagles earned kills in the first eight Faulkner points of the second set jumping to a 8-3 advantage. A late charge from the Rams cut the lead to two, but Ashley Ingwersen (SR/Huntsville, Ala.) finished the set with one of her three aces in the match. Serving took over in the final set, highlighted by four consecutive aces from Julianne Wilkes (SR/Deatsville, Ala.) to flip a one point deficit to a three point advantage. The libero ended the match with five aces and pacing the floor with 13 digs.
Nine different Lady Eagles earned kills in the opening match. Kortney Barnes (JR/Mobile, Ala.) had two solo blocks and two assisted blocks.
A six point streak from Faulkner turned the tide of the opening set against Reinhardt, flipping a 17-13 deficit to a 19-17 lead. A hosting Eagle attack error halted Reinhardt's set point opportunity and gave the Lady Eagles the window they needed to capitalize and take the first set. Faulkner cold not keep the momentum going into the second set, however, commiting 11 errors in the frame as Reinhardt cruised into a tie.
After holding a 7-5 lead in the third set, the Lady Eagles ended up on the wrong side of a 7-1 burst and would neither lead nor tie after each was surrendered.Tied at 20 in the final set, Faulkner could not force a fifth set but instead gave up five straight points for Reinhardt to win the match.
Barnes had two solo blocks and four assited in the match. Daijah Washington (SR/Tallahassee, Fla.) led the Lady Eagles with 10 kills and earned a double-double with 15 digs. The Tallahassee, Fla. native also tallied four aces. Wilkes once again led the floor with 19. Alyssa Stagner (SO/Sneads, Fla.)'s double-double with 28 assists and 16 digs. Madison Sides (SR/Spring Garden, Ala.) turned in 11 digs.
Faulkner sits at 7-9 overall and will welcome Mobile Friday night in an SSAC contest.
