Faulkner frustrated in loss at Keiser

Box Score

Faulkner found little but frustration on one of its longest road trips of the season Saturday, falling to No. 22 Keiser 35-3. The Seahawks scored in every quarter while amassing 431 yards of total offense in the rout.

The Eagles' lone points of the day came in the final moments of the second quarter when Alvin Renteria (JR/Phenix City, Ala.) drilled a 39-yard field goal as time expired to cut the deficit to 21-3. The score remained there until 36 seconds remaining in the third quarter when Marques Burgess punched it in from two yards out. Eli Mathews added a 1-yard scoring plunge with 3:36 to go in the game to set the final margin. Mathews also threw a pair of touchdown passes while Asfunso Elam scored on a second quarter run.

Burgess shined brightest for the Seahawks, rushing 19 times for 139 yards and a score while also hauling in a 68-yard touchdown pass on his lone reception of the day.

For Faulkner's part, turnovers told much of the tale. The Eagles coughed up the ball four times in the game. Mason Blocker (SR/Covington, La.) passed for 131 yards and ran for 75 on the day. Charles Blackmon (SO/Faunsdale, Ala.) anchored the ground game with 78 yards on 20 carries. Antonio Gurley (SO/Andalusia, Ala.) spearheaded the defense with 10 total tackles.

Faulkner (2-2, 0-1 MSC Sun Division) takes the field again Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. when it hosts Webber International.
