Box Score The Lady Eagles concluded their home play Friday night in Tine Davis Gymnasium with a 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 25-21,15-10) loss to league foe William Carey in the SSAC Game of the Week. The defeat marks the seventh time this season Faulkner has lost in five sets at home this season in seven matches, despite being 3-0 in sets which went the distance on the road.
A quick 6-0 lead was squandered in the first set by the Lady Eagles as the Crusaders battled back before tying the match at 16 before taking a 21-17 advantage on the back of 16 kills.
Kortney Barnes (JR/Mobile, Ala.) took over in the middle of the second set with a kill sparking a five point run featuring two aces from the middle blocker to take a 10-8 lead. William Carey would thrice draw within one point of the set lead but were held off from equalizing as Faulkner tied the match at one set each.
The Crusaders service error tied at 19-all in set three instigated three consecutive visitor errors, turning the tide in favor of the Lady Eagles as Tori Bartels's squad took a 2-1 lead. During the set, Faulkner found 15 kills to just three errors.
Faulkner forced a tie at 16 before William Carey won nine of the next 14 points to force the decisive fifth set.
Senior Daijah Washington (SR/Tallahassee, Fla.)'s kill opened the fifth frame, but it would be the only time Faulkner would lead in the final game. Jordan Stephens ended the match with her 27th kill of the evening.
Julianne Wilkes (SR/Deatsville, Ala.) dug 31 attacks in her final match in Tine Davis Gymnasium, eclipsing 2500 career digs. Fellow senior Ashley Ingwersen (SR/Huntsville, Ala.) added 16 while setter Alyssa Stagner (SO/Sneads, Fla.) pitched in 17 with her career high 54 assists. Sarah-Gracen Watts (SO/Pike Road, Ala.) completed 12 digs.
Five Lady Eagles ended with double digit kills: Washington (14), Alysa Vinson (SO/Pike Road, Ala.) (13), Barnes (13), Mallory Black (SO/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) (11) and Alexis McInroy (FR/Elberta, Ala.) (11.)
After the match, Bartels and her team recognized five members of the program as their time at Faulkner draws to a close: Madelyn Cheatham, Ingwersen, Madison Sides (SR/Spring Garden, Ala.), Washington and Wilkes.
Faulkner travels to Blue Mountain, Miss. for the first time to face the Lady Toppers Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
