Box Score The seventh-seeded Lady Eagles announced their presence in the 2019 SSAC Volleyball Championship with a resounding 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 26-24) win over Mobile Friday afternoon at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
Faulkner's offense has sputtered throughout the season, but fired on all cylindars Friday afternoon hitting nearly double its season attack percentage at .260. Kortney Barnes (JR/Mobile, Ala.) paced the Lady Eagle attack with 12 kills on a .500 percentage while Madison Sides (SR/Spring Garden, Ala.) kept pace with 11 kills and a .409.
Alexis McInroy (FR/Elberta, Ala.)'s kill while trailing 11-9 in the opening set preceded one of Alyssa Stagner (SO/Sneads, Fla.)'s four aces on the day, starting seven straight points and 12 of the next 15 as Faulkner claimed the first set.
Much like the previous set, Barnes delivered a kill leading 8-7 sparking a 10-2 run putting the second firmly in the hands of the defending SSAC tournament champions as they hit .366 with 17 kills in the frame.
Mobile battled off two set points in the final frame to force the extended points. Sides's kill gave Tori Bartels's side the advantage before Mallory Black (SO/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) ended the match blocking a Ram attack.
Stagner and Samantha Morse (SO/Clarkston, Mich.) split setting duties with 22 and 13 assists, respectively, while contributing nine and 11 digs defensively. Ashley Ingwersen (SR/Huntsville, Ala.) paced the floor with 18 digs. Julianne Wilkes (SR/Deatsville, Ala.) finished second with 16. The libero also earned four kills on seven attempts.
Faulkner is 1-0 in pool play and will take on Bethel (1-0) tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. and Florida College (0-1) immediately after. The Wildcats defeated the Falcons in five sets to open Pool B play. The top two teams in the group standings advance to play Saturday in the semifinals.
