Lady Eagles drop Oakwood in road tilt

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Faulkner found its stroke from deep early and kept shooting in an 82-50 road victory over Oakwood University Tuesday night. The Lady Eagles knocked down a quartet of three-pointers in the first quarter on the way to making 15 in the game.

Faulkner held a 38-24 lead at halftime before locking the game down in the third quarter by limiting Oakwood to just four points in the frame. The Lady Eagles opened the period on a 10-0 run before Jolie Johnson dropped a shot for the home team. Faulkner fired right back with a 9-2 run to end the quarter.

With her team up 57-28 to start the fourth, Laura Jones (SO/Bonifay, Fla.) stepped onto the floor for the first time. The sophomore guard came out firing, knocking down 5 of 6 threes in the final period to lead the team with 15 points in the game.

Angela Grant (SO/Hoover, Ala.) finished the night with 13 points and 19 rebounds despite playing only 22 minutes. Kayla Harbin (SR/Hartselle, Ala.), Channing Gafford (JR/Athens, Ala.) and Micala Fisanick (SO/Troy, Ala.) finished with eight points each for the Lady Eagles. Regine Ellis-Parker paced Oakwood with 16 points while Alexis Boykin added 11.

Faulkner won the rebounding battle 62-40 but turned the ball over 20 times as compared to 18 by Oakwood. The Lady Eagles also tallied 21 assists on 29 made baskets.

Faulkner (7-2) opens Southern States Athletic Conference play Saturday at noon when it travels to Pulaski, Tenn. to take on Martin Methodist.
