Clutch free throw shooting, timely defense fuels win over Huntingdon

Box Score

Faulkner and Huntingdon renewed hostilities for the first time since Feb. 7, 2011 Tuesday night with the Eagles putting together a late run to upend their crosstown foes 58-56.

After having shot 61 percent from the free throw line entering the night, Nate Bradley (SR/Concord, N.Y.) stepped to the stripe with 47 seconds to go and his team down one. Bradley dropped both ends of a two-shot opportunity to put Faulkner up 57-56 with 23 seconds to play. After the Eagles forced a stop, Bradley made one more free throw with 6.3 to play, increasing the lead to 58-56 and set Faulkner up to win the game on the defensive end.

Huntingdon's Ceaunte Zachery hit a shot with 15:12 to play to put the Hawks up by 12 before Faulkner went to work. Milan Skundric (SR/Negotin, Serbia) cashed in an and-1 opportunity before Aaron Washington dropped a three from the corner to push the Hawk lead by to a dozen. Trace Hill (SO/Hartselle, Ala.) then buried a triple of his own with 13:50 to play before putting in a shot with 13:13 left to narrow it to 43-36. A pair of C.J. Williamson (SO/Guntersville, Ala.) free throws left the deficit at six with 12:08 to go. Jamon Moore (SR/Albany, Ga.) and Williamson combined for the next six Eagle points to narrow it to one before Damien Madison hit a pair of free throws to reset the advantage to three.

Undaunted, Skundric put down the next two free throws to put the Eagles behind only one point before Williamson dropped in a shot for the first Faulkner lead since the 2:27 mark in the opening half.

The lead changed hands three more times before Huntingdon built the advantage to 56-52 with seven unanswered points.

The Eagles scored six of their final eight points from the free throw line on a night in which they went 20 of 28 from the stripe.

Williamson put up 14 points to lead all scorers. Skundric finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks, three assists and two steals. Charvez Hobson, James Harris and Zachary finished with eight points apiece to lead Huntindgon.
