Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The day after Faulkner lost to the No. 7 team in the country, the Lady Eagles fell to (RV) Pikeville 69-57 Saturday in the Penn Station Classic. The Lady Eagles jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and traded punches for the first half of the opening quarter. Pikeville then embarked on a 19-5 run to end the first and put Faulkner in a 15-point hole. The lead ballooned up to as many as 20 in the second quarter and 22 in the third before Faulkner started to claw back into the game.
The Lady Eagles went on a 12-1 run late in the third to cut the deficit to 11. They Later pulled it to within nine with a 9-1 run late in the fourth but they failed to score over the game's final 2:16 on the way to the defeat.
Pikeville did much of its damage at the free throw line, going 19 of 24 from the charity stripe while Faulkner got only eight attempts. The Lady Eagles incurred 20 personal fouls against only 10 for Pikeville. Faulkner turned it over 17 times in the game, allowing Pikeville to get 20 points off those miscues.
Ashlyn Adkins (JR/Locust Fork, Ala.) finished with 16 points to lead all scorers. Angela Grant (SO/Hoover, Ala.) had nine points and 13 rebounds. Channing Gafford (JR/Athens, Ala.) and Ryann Sylvester (JR/Mobile, Ala.) also finished with nine points each.
Faulkner (9-5) plays Southern Miss in an exhibition game Dec. 28 before hosting Point University Dec. 30.
