Faulkner grinds out Sanderson's 400th win

Box Score

Faulkner (18-11, 11-10 SSAC) jumped out to a 33-15 lead in the first 12 minutes before holding off a deep ball barrage from Florida College (12-17, 6-15 SSAC) Thursday night at Tine Davis Gymnasium as Scott Sanderson recorded his 400th career victory 86-79. "I haven't won a game, I haven't made a basket, haven't gotten a stop," Sanderson said. "I've had a lot of great players doing hard work and I try to keep them accountable every day. I've been very fortunate to coach a bunch of good kids and I was excited about getting that win tonight."

The Eagles kept their distance from the Falcons on the scoreboard until an 8-1 Florida College run in the middle of the second half brought the game within one possession. "For the first 13 minutes of the game tonight, every possession mattered and we were up 18 points," Sanderson said. "Then all of the sudden we got flat and took some quick shots." Faulkner received key contributions from the two Serbian starters Adnan Halilovic (SR/Mali Zvornik, Serbia) and Milan Skundric (JR/Negotin, Serbia) down the stretch as the two combined for 17 of the final 26 points to ice the game away.

Skundric filled the stat sheet and lead the floor in almost every major stat. He finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, four steals and four assists. Halilovic ended with fifteen points. Rene Scott (JR/Mobile, Ala.) added 21 points including 11 of the first 16 points scored by Faulkner.  Florida College's Jacob Roark was the only player on either side to outscore Skundric as he dumped in 27 points.

Faulkner will host Brewton-Parker Saturday at 4 p.m. in their regular season finale. Before the game, seniors Sean Edwards (SR/Madison, Ala.), Adnan Halilovic and Luka Dmitrovic (SR/Cacak, Serbia) will be recogized.
