Clutch three point shooting lifts Faulkner over Loyola

Box Score

Three different Eagles drained three pointers on three straight possessions late into second half made the difference in a tight SSAC contest Thursday night as the Eagles improved to 15-9 and 8-8 in league play. Trailing 64-62, Adnan Halilovic (SR/Mali Zvornik, Serbia) knocked home a deep ball to put the Eagles ahead for good Rene Scott (JR/Mobile, Ala.) hit the next three on the ensuing possession and C.J. Jones (JR/Port Richey, Fla.) kept the streak alive to stretch the lead to 71-66.

Scott lead the team with 27 points, moving him just 11 points away from joining the 1000 point club. Jones added 18 points and was one rebound away from completing the double-double. Milan Skundric (JR/Negotin, Serbia), the do-it-all Serbian forward, had 12 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, four steals and an assist.

"They're a hard team to cover," head coach Scott Sanderson said. "The last six minutes, the zone saved us. It slowed them down a little bit and I really think that was the difference." Faulkner forced 22 turnovers in the contest and cashed those opportunities in for 28 points.

The Eagles ride their two game winning streak into a meeting with 13th-ranked William Carey on Saturday for another conference matchup. "It's going to be a quick paced game we're going to need more guys to step up," Sanderson said. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
