Lady Eagles respond with four wins at Bryan Bash

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4

After dropping each match in its hosting tournament last weekend, the Lady Eagles found their winning ways in the Bryan Bash Friday and Saturday taking all four matches, bringing the season record to 4-4.

Faulkner 3, Ave Maria 2

In the first of two matches against the Gyrenes, Faulkner won the statistical battle on both sides of the net. The Lady Eagles held Ave Maria to just .026% hitting while cruising with .246% on the attack. Faulkner held a 19-15 lead in a potentially match clinching fourth set before the Gyrenes rattled off a 10-1 run to force a fifth set. The Lady Eagles bounced back and claimed their first match win of the season emphatically with a 15-3 final set.

Faulkner 3, Bryan 2

Faulkner opened a three match Saturday with another resilient comeback highlighted by Ashley Ingwersen (SR/Huntsville, Ala.)'s career high kill tally. The senior from Huntsville won 17 points on the attack, eight more than her previous high. After starting flat in the first two sets, the Lady Eagles had a 2-0 mountain to climb against the hosts. Alyssa Stagner (SO/Sneads, Fla.)'s serve in the third jolted Faulkner to a 7-0 lead which it would maintain through the set. The fourth set was a little closer but consistency in the middle of the set forced the fifth straight five set match for the Lady Eagles. The Lions survived three match points to tie the set at 14. Kortney Barnes (JR/Mobile, Ala.)'s kill at 17-17 followed by a Bryan attack error sealed the comeback victory for Faulkner.

Faulkner 3, Johnson and Wales 1

The Lady Eagles snapped the streak of five set matches with a four set win over the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales. Julianne Wilkes (SR/Deatsville, Ala.) collected 30+ digs for the second straight match leading the floor with 32, 10 more than anybody else. Ingwersen's hot hand continued with 11 more kills in the contest which would have eclipsed her career high before the day began. After cruising through the first two sets, Faulkner couldn't close out the third and went to a fourth. Tied at 22 in the fourth set, Ingwersen took over with two kills in the next four points to seal the match.

Faulkner 3, Ave Maria 0

Much like the first meeting of these two sides, there were very few points to separate the teams. In the first set, Ingwersen proved clutch once more, killing two points handed Faulkner a double set point oppourtunity which they would take on the second point with a kill from Barnes. An 8-0 Lady Eagle run flipped a 19-16 deficit to a 24-19 lead and the second set victory. Similarly in the third, a late run flipped the tide of the set; an ace from Jordan Stewart (SO/Wetumpka, Ala.) and kills from Madison Sides (SR/Spring Garden, Ala.) and Barnes coupled with two Gyrene errors pushed Faulkner to the sweep.

The Lady Eagles travel to Marietta, Ga. to face the Life Running Eagles on Sept. 10.
