Box Score After falling behind in the 39th minute, Faulkner regrouped and poured in four unanswered goals to defeat the Pensacola Christian Eagles 4-1 Thursday night at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
Despite controlling possession and chances for the first 38 minutes of the game, a defensive blunder from Faulkner led to a one-on-one for Riley Buchalski against Caio Calado (JR/Sao Bernardo Do Campo, Sao Paulo, Brazil) and the guest taking the lead against the run of play. The home Eagles found the turning point in the game with just over a minute to play in the first half when an indirect free kick was awarded to Faulkner about eight yards away from goal. Guilherme Mondaini (JR/Rio das Ostras, Brazil) rolled the ball backwards to Mateus Cesar (SR/Salvador, Brazil) who sent a top shelf laser of the bar and in to even the score.
Cesar, who saw his first official game action since 2017 due to injury, dribbled down the end line and floated a cross to the back post where Sam Kelly (JR/Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England) headed groundward past Pensacola Christian goalkeeper Adam Lund for the eventual game winning goal.
Insurance was added off the bench by Pedro Moura (JR/Garanhuns, Brazil) when his nine minute brace iced the game away on a balmy Montgomery night. Lucas Vilela (JR/Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil) found Moura on the right side of the penalty area and the Brazilian forward drove the ball into the opposite side netting in the 82nd minute. Vilela sprung a textbook counter attack in the 90th minute with an outside foot pass to Dave Chesterman (SR/Carterton, Oxfordshire, England). The senior forward fed a perfect through ball for Moura who dribbled around the goalkeeper and tucked the ball away calmly.
Calado collected two saves in the winning effort.
The Eagles move to 2-0 and will host Webber International Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
