Box Score TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. – Florida College got hot late to pull away from Faulkner Saturday afternoon to hand the Lady Eagles their second straight SSAC loss. Faulkner trailed by as many as six in the second quarter Channing Gafford (JR/Athens, Ala.) erupted. The junior forward scored 14 points in less than minutes including a quartet of threes to slingshot the Lady Eagles to a 10-point lead with 5:07 until half.
Moments later, the wheels began to come off for Faulkner. Rylee Everett knocked down a triple with 4:49 until the break that ignited a 13-2 run. The stretch culminated with a Kinlee Varnell buzzer-beater that send Florida College to the locker room with a 35-34 lead.
The teams traded buckets to open the third quarter before a brief 7-0 run lifted the Lady Eagles into the lead when Micala Fisanick (SO/Troy, Ala.) converted a shot to put her team ahead 48-46. The advantage proved short-lived as the Falcons surged one more time before the quarter ended to take a 55-52 lead into the fourth period.
Then things fell apart for Faulkner. Florida College connected on nine of its 16 shot attempts in the fourth and shared the basketball to the tune of seven assists in the frame. The Falcons ultimately hung 29 points on the board in the game's final 10 minutes and won going away.
Aundre' Anna Judie topped Florida College with 20 points while Everett added 19 points and seven rebounds. Kinlee Varnell and Alexis Cainion had 13 points apiece. Kaylee Hinson added 12 for the Falcons.
Faulkner saw Ashlyn Adkins (JR/Locust Fork, Ala.) pour in 22 points to go along with a career high 10 assists as well as three rebounds, three blocks and two steals. The performance accounted for her second career double-double. The previous came Jan. 19, 2019 against Florida College when she had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Gafford added 17 points for the Lady Eagles Saturday to go with six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Angela Grant (SO/Hoover, Ala.) contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Faulkner (12-7, 2-3 SSAC) returns to action Jan. 18 when it travels to Stillman for a noon tip.
