Lady Eagles knock down a dozen threes in road SSAC win

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Faulkner trailed for all of 11 seconds Saturday in a 79-69 victory over SSAC foe Stillman. The Lady Eagles took a 4-0 lead before the opening tip when Ashlyn Adkins (JR/Locust Fork, Ala.) knocked down a quartet of free throws that came as the result of a pair of administrative technical fouls. The lead remained until Daja Polk knocked down a shot with 5:14 left in the opening quarter to put Stillman up 15-13. Angela Grant (SO/Hoover, Ala.) erased the deficit 11 seconds later with her third bucket of the opening frame. A three from Micala Fisanick (SO/Troy, Ala.) later put Faulkner on top 18-15, giving the Lady Eagles a lead they never relinquished.

Faulkner ran the advantage to 13 points in the second quarter before Stillman cut it to 42-37 by halftime. The Lady Eagles got the lead as high as nine in the third quarter when Stillman pieced together a 9-3 run to end period with a 57-54 deficit. Zaria Jenkins connected on a shot with 9:44 to play in the game to narrow the gap to 57-56.

Faulkner responded 18 seconds later with a Channing Gafford (JR/Athens, Ala.) shot that ignited an 8-0 run. Grant slipped on an apparent wet spot on the floor with 1:46 to play, sustaining an injury that kept her sidelined for the duration of the contest.

Gafford put up 20 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists and two steals in leading Faulkner. Fisanick had a career high 17 points in the effort. Grant scored 13 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Adkins had nine points and six assists. Kayla Harbin (SR/Hartselle, Ala.) added eight points. Megan Wilkinson (SO/Lumberton, Texas) and Olivia Colson (SO/Thompson's Station, Tenn.) finished with six points each.

Shania Osbourne topped Stillman with 16 points. Ashley World added 12 while Jenkins finished with 10.

Faulkner shot 48 percent from the floor and 48 percent from three-point territory. The Lady Eagles limited Stillman to 36.4 percent shooting on 77 shot attempts.

Faulkner (13-7, 3-3 SSAC) return to action Monday at 5:30 p.m. when it travles to Mobile.
