Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A game that appeared nearly in-hand with 11:37 remaining saw four lead changes in the final 61 seconds as Faulkner overcame Stillman 85-84 Saturday afternoon After the teams volleyed the lead for much of the first half, Faulkner took a 42-34 lead into the locker room. That advantage remained largely safe until Ladarius Carter converted an and-1 opportunity with 4:34 left on the clock to cut the Stillman deficit to three. The Tigers got the deficit down to two points on a Roger Davis shot with 2:43 remaining.
Carter drained a triple with 2:10 left to narrow the gap to 79-7 with 2:10 to play. At the 1:01 mark, Devin Merriweather hit both ends of a double bonus visit to put Stillman up 82-81.
The lead proved short lived as Nate Bradley (SR/Concord, N.Y.) dribbled into the middle of the lane and dropped a floater with 38 seconds left to give the Eagles an 83-82 advantage.
Giovanni Bray rebounded a miss at the other end with 17 seconds left and dished off to Trey Petty, who dropped it through the net with 14 ticks left on the clock to put Stillman up 84-83.
Faulkner coach Scott Sanderson immediately called timeout and drew up the sequence that resulted in the game-winner. Bradley took the inbound and worked around a screen from Milan Skundric (SR/Negotin, Serbia) before dishing to Williamson. The sophomore forward then threatened the lane from the side before floating a shot that caromed off the glass and through the rim for an 85-84 Faulkner lead. The Eagles then defended the final four seconds to ice the win. The result marks the fifth one-possession victory of the season for Faulkner, which is now 5-1 in such games.
The win came on a day in which Faulkner had only nine players dressed and only eight playing in the game. Five Eagles played at least 30 minutes in the contest.
Stillman won the rebounding battle 37-26 while also shooting 50 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from three and 75 percent from the free throw line. Faulkner answered by shooting 50.9 percent from the floor, 36.8 percent from three and 70.6 percent at the stripe.
The difference in the game for Faulkner came at the free throw line where the Eagles went 24 of 34.
Williamson paced Faulkner with 21 points off the bench. All of his scoring output came in the second half. Bradley scored 17 for the Eagles. Skundric finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Trace Hill (SO/Hartselle, Ala.) added 11 points off the bench for Faulkner.
Bray topped Stillman with 18 points while Davis had 14. Chance Fisher notched 11. Petty added 10.
Faulkner (15-3, 6-1 SSAC) returns to action Monday at 7:30 p.m. when it travels to Mobile.
