Faulkner cruises past Middle Georgia for eighth straight win

Box Score

COCHRAN, Ga. – C.J. Jones (SR/Port Richey, Fla.) made a three-pointer with 16:21 remaining in the first half and Faulkner took a lead it never relinquished en route to an 85-66 victory over Middle Georgia State Saturday afternoon.

The Jones triple ignited a 17-4 run that vaulted Faulkner to a double digit lead. Josue Passius knocked down a three with 10:13 remaining in the opening half that briefly cut the deficit to nine. The lead went back to double figures 20 seconds later on a pair of C.J. Williamson (SO/Guntersville, Ala.) free throws that kicked off a 13-5 Faulkner run.

The Eagles carried a 43-28 advantage into the break and kept the lead in double figures until Michael Graham knocked down a shot with 13:14 remaining that cut it to 54-45. Jamon Moore (SR/Albany, Ga.) wasted little time in hitting a shot just 12 seconds later that sent it back to a double figure game.

Trevon Williams cashed in an opportunity off a turnover with 11:45 left to narrow it to 56-47 but Moore answered once more with a shot just 18 seconds later to send it to a four-possession game again. Williams fired back at the 11:10 mark to narrow it to nine and Moore pushed it right back to 60-49 with a shot of his own 15 seconds later.

Milan Skundric (SR/Negotin, Serbia) drained a three with 10:27 to play that sent the score to 63-49 and all but quashed the MGA comeback effort as the Knights never got within single digits again. Faulkner got the lead as high as 18 before Trace Hill (SO/Hartselle, Ala.) hit a three with 2:01 left to cap the scoring and polish off a 19-point win for the Eagles.

Jones finished with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists for Faulkner. Skundric added 16 points and 10 boards. Moore turned in 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Williamson had 12 points, eight boards and four assists. Hill had 10 points.

Graham led all scorers and rebounders with 17 and 11. Ijon Owens had 15 points while Chancellor Lockett added 12. Passius notched 11 for Middle Georgia.

The victory marked the eighth straight for the Eagles, which have won 12 of their last 13 outings. Faulkner (17-3, 8-1 SSAC) return home Thursday to host Bethel.
