Lady Eagles fall in overtime at Brewton-Parker

MT. VERNON, Ga. – Faulkner saw its three-game winning streak snapped as Brewton-Parker picked up its first SSAC win of the season with a 71-70 overtime victory Thursday night.

The Lady Eagles trailed by as many as 12 in the third quarter before mounting a comeback in the game's final period to force overtime.

Trailing by nine with 7:58 to play, Angela Grant (SO/Hoover, Ala.) connected on a shot to narrow the gap to 64-57. Neither team scored for the next five minutes of game clock until Grant's defensive rebound ignited a sequence that culminate in a Micala Fisanick (SO/Troy, Ala.) bucket to leave the deficit at five.

Fisanick scored the next points of the game at the 1:02 mark to cut it to a one-possession affair. Megan Wilkinson (SO/Lumberton, Texas) then drained a three off a Grant assist with 38 seconds left in regulation to knot it at 64.

The teams volleyed the lead for the first 2:12 of the overtime period with Grant posting a pair of shots for the Lady Eagles. With 2:02 left in overtime, Jady Ivy turned an Eanna Sims dish into a three for the 71-68 lead. Ashlyn Adkins (JR/Locust Fork, Ala.) later dropped a pair of free throws for Faulkner to cut the deficit to one. The Lady Eagles then went 0-for-3 from three the rest of the way to take the loss.

Adkins topped all scorers with 18 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Grant added 14 points and 16 rebounds for Faulkner. Fisanick contributed 11 points in the effort.

Sims had 17 to lead the Barons. Joy Hadley had 13 while Ivy finished with 12 and Eden Duckworth put up 10.

Faulkner shot 46.6 percent from the floor, 39.1 percent from deep and 77.8 percent from the free throw line. BPC went 40.3 percent from the floor, 31.3 percent from three and 78.6 percent from the charity stripe. The Lady Eagles assisted on 19 of 27 made baskets and won the rebounding battle 39-32.

Faulkner (12-6, 2-2 SSAC) returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. against Florida College in Temple Terrace, Fla.
