Freed-Hardeman three-point barrage buries Lady Eagles

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – It was another long night for the Faulkner Lady Eagles as the final game of the Christian College Classic ended with an 84-60 win by receiving votes Freed-Hardeman at Tine Davis Gymnasium. For the second game in a row, the opposition won the opening tipoff and took it right down the court for the first points. The visiting Lady Lions scored 10 points before the Lady Eagles broke into the scoring column. Faulkner could never dig itself out of the hole. Freed-Hardeman led at the first quarter's close 30-11 by virtue of six 3-pointers. The Lions cruised in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 43-20 lead, aided by a 56 percent three-point shooting percentage, which was as high as 64.7 percent in the first quarter. That stood in stark contrast to Faulkner's 18.8 percent field goal percentage, which was six baskets in 32 shots, and 13.3 percent mark from long range in the frame.

The Lady Eagles could not overcome this dismal start to the night as they managed to stop the bleeding and score just one less point than the Lions in the second half. Faulkner was drastically outrebounded once again as the team gathered in 35 boards, and only six of them on the offensive end, to the Lady Lions' 57. The also lost the second-chance points column 15-1.

Ashlyn Adkins, who has played all 40 minutes in each of her first two games this season, was Faulkner's saving grace with 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Channing Gafford added 13 points and six boards while Micala Fisanick pitched in eight points, four rebounds and two assists.

Alyssa LeMay carried Freed-Hardeman, as she finished her night with 27 points and 15 rebounds. Caroline Chambers tallied 16 points, eight boards, four assists and three blocks. Both only played 28 minutes. Reagen Floyd scored seven points, eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals.

The home team falls to 1-2 on the season. The visitors, meanwhile, defending back-to-back champions of their conference, with only 14 losses from 2017 until now, and the 2018 national champions, improve to 4-0. Each of the Lions' games this season have been decided by double-digit margins.

Faulkner is scheduled to travel to Thomasville, Ga. for its next matchup against Thomas University Tuesday, Nov. 17. The Lady Eagles will be back in Alabama for a road tilt against No. 19 Talladega four days after the Thomas game.
