Lady Eagles bow out of SSAC tourney

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner led for all of 16 seconds Thursday night on the way to a 78-58 loss to Martin Methodist in the quarterfinals of the SSAC tournament. The No. 3 seed Red Hawks hung 29 points on the board in the first quarter to carry a 13-point lead into the game's second period and ran the lead to 45-28 by halftime.

Despite knocking down only four three-point shots in the contest, Martin opened the lead to as many as 32 points in the third quarter. Faulkner ended the game on an 11-2 run to narrow the deficit to 20.

The Red Hawks scored 26 points off of 22 Faulkner turnovers while also winning the rebounding battle 43-36. Martin saw four players score in double figures led by Lacey Reed's 19 points.

Channing Gafford (JR/Athens, Ala.) finished with a game high 23 points for Faulkner. Ashlyn Adkins (JR/Locust Fork, Ala.) added 14 points in the effort. Kayla Harbin grabbed 10 rebounds in the final game of her collegiate career.

Faulkner caps its season at 17-14 overall.
