COCHRAN, Ga. – After a strong first quarter of play, Faulkner lost control of the game Friday night and scarcely got it back on the way to an 80-71 loss to Middle Georgia State. While the game was tied on three occasions in the opening quarter, the Lady Eagles never trailed in the frame. The game turned on a 15-0 Middle Georgia run to open the second quarter. By the 4:03 mark, the Knights were up 32-20 on a Rykia Pennamon bucket.
Faulkner then put together a 10-3 run to get back in it when
Morgan Holland hit a three with 1:48 left in the half. After Middle Georgia ballooned the lead back to 13 with 6:33 left in the third quarter,
Lauren Allen scored in the paint to spark a 12-3 run and narrow the gap to four.
Faulkner opened the fourth quarter down 54-49 but drew no closer as MGA ran the advantage back to as high as 14.
The Lady Eagles hit 42 percent of their shots from the floor in the game but made only four out of 24 three-point attempts. Faulkner also turned the ball over 16 times to lead to 21 Middle Georgia points.
Ashlyn Adkins finished with 18 points and five rebounds to lead Faulkner. Holland had 14 points while Gafford had 10.
Faulkner (7-8, 3-3 SSAC) returns to action Saturday for its third contest against Middle Georgia this season.
