First half of league play ends in loss

MOBILE, Ala. - Aces proved to be the difference Tuesday night as Faulkner fell in straight sets to Mobile 25-21, 25-14, 25-23 in H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium. After firing four aces in the first to take a four-point set victory, Mobile rolled through the second, lacing 16 kills to just three errors before closing the match in three with a couple of clutch aces as the Lady Eagles pressured towards forcing a fourth.

Alexis McInroy's kill helped Faulkner start the match on a 4-0 start with three Ram attack errors. Five ties and three lead changes later, tied at 21, Mobile finished on a 4-0 run of their own.

Trailing 8-7 in the second, Faulkner's defense saw why Mobile entered the night with the highest attack percentage in the league as the Rams hit 10 kills and three aces to run away with the stanza.

A blistering 11-0 run put the Lady Eagles in great position to force a fourth set. Trailing 11-6, Alyssa Stagner stepped behind the line following a Mobile service error. The setter would tally a kill, an ace and three assists before yielding serve. Hannah Bryan and McInroy blocked an attack before combining for four kills in the swing. However, the hosts inched back into the set before flipping a 21-17 Faulkner score to a 25-23 clinching set win with a pair of aces.

McInroy's 10 kills led the team while her three blocks shared the lead with Bryan. Stagner's 22 assists paced the team while Jordan Stewart's nine digs led the way for Faulkner.

The Lady Eagles fall to 9-11 overall and 3-4 in SSAC play after playing everyone in the conference once. Five of their final seven matches will be at home starting Oct. 15 against Loyola who sits atop the league standings at 6-1 in conference action.
