Four different goal scorers as Eagles blank Tornadoes

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Eagles raced past Talladega 5-0 Thursday night in the SSAC Game of the Week at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium. Two Eagles scored their first goals of their careers and Antoine Marques earned his second brace of the year.

Nic Fischer dropped the green flag in the 18th minute, smothering a potential one-on-one before it manifested into a shot and punted the ball 80 yards in the air with over four seconds of hang time where Marques and Sam Kelly were atop the 18 with a two-v-one scenario. The Frenchman passed to the Englishman who returned the ball leaving an open goal for Marques's fifth goal of the season.

The match, which looked like it would fall similar to the three previous meetings with it ending as a one-goal difference, surged into a 4-0 match in 10 minutes. Higor Franca chased down a Felipe Pineiro lofted through ball from the backline and had just the keeper to beat after an exploding first touch for his first goal of the year.

Thiago Micki fired his first career goal into the top right corner on a rip of a volley eight minutes later in the 67th as Bevan Wortley's cross to Marques was dropped on a platter to make it 3-0.

Two minutes later, Guilherme Mondaini chipped the Tornado defense and found Marques who's first touch beat Cosmas Uzoaru on the near post for his second goal of the night. Mondaini now has four assists in three career matches against Talladega.

As time wound down, Gabino Morin quickly took a throw in long to Kelly in the 85th who found the left post and into the net after being all alone in front of the substituted keeper Leonard Richardson.

The Eagles are now 4-0-1 against Talladega and have won their last two home matches by a score of 12-1.

Fischer finished the night with five saves for his first shutout of the season. Defensively, the Eagles held Talladega to just nine shots, the lowest against an NAIA foe since the season opening loss against Freed-Hardeman.

Faulkner will welcome Blue Mountain for a midday showdown at 1 p.m. Saturday.
