MONTGOMERY, Ala. - An all-out stand from Faulkner came just short against the No. 4 team in the country as it took a bicycle kick for Mobile to end the Eagles' season in the SSAC Semifinals Wednesday night at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex 1-0.
Faulkner's defense turned in an incredible performance, limiting a clinical Rams offense to just five shots on target despite the top-seeded side shooting 25 times. The lone moment of brilliance came in the 65th minute when Rodrigo Paredes collected a scramble on a corner and struck the overhead kick into the goal with his first touch of the night after subbing on immediately before the corner.
Faulkner nearly scored in the dying embers of the match as
Felipe Pineiro's header narrowly missed the frame with 10 seconds to play on the only corner for the Eagles on the night off the foot of
Guilherme Mondaini.
The Eagles conclude the season as SSAC semifinalists for the second consecutive season and a final record of 5-11.
