Box Score LAURINBURG, N.C. – Faulkner wrapped the regular season Saturday with a 52-18 trouncing of St. Andrews that saw the Eagles end the game with 25 unanswered points.
After a Donavan Simpson touchdown run with 10:29 to go in the third quarter cut the Faulkner lead to 27-18, the Knights attempted an onside kick.
Marvin Payton collected the kicked ball and returned it 45 yards for his first career touchdown. The Eagles added another score on the first play of the fourth quarter when
Kade Young hit
Jalen Browder for an 11-yard touchdown strike. Vashon Jackson added a two-yard touchdown run with just over 11 minutes to play before Browder capped the scoring when he hauled in a 15-yard pass from
Brock Snyder.
The Eagles opened the scoring with 9:35 left in the first when Young hit Browder for a 33-yard scoring play. After Demetrius Mitchell snagged an Austin Wallace throw for a 45-yard score, the Faulkner offense went back to work again. Young hit
Isaiah Scott for a 25-yard touchdown pass before linking up with
Satyler Wilson for a 15-yard score.
After Kashard Cohens took a Wallace throw 80 yards for a score, Young found
T.J. Hall for a 29-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds left in the opening half to send the Eagles to the locker room up 27-12.
Faulkner ran 74 plays for 514 yards on the day with 250 of that coming through the air and 264 on the ground. Young anchored the offensive effort with 219 yards passing and five touchdown passes thrown to four different receivers. The quarterback also rushed 10 times for 52 yards.
Faulkner (8-2) caps the regular season at 5-1 in the Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division.
