MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner's 29-game home win streak came to an end Saturday as Talladega's defensive pressure proved too much for the Eagles in a 66-57 loss. The setback is the first Eagle loss in Tine Davis Gymnasium since Dec. 13, 2019.
Faulkner trailed by 18 at the half and saw the Talladega lead to grow to 20 by the under 12 media timeout before it started to get back into the game. The Eagles embarked upon a 16-6 run that sent the teams into the under six media timeout with the game at 58-47. Faulkner finally worked the deficit into single digits on a
Jalon Perry bucket with 3:52 left to narrow it to 61-52. The score never got closer.
Talladega won the rebounding battle 35-32 and came away with nine steals to help outscore the Eagles 13-6 off turnovers. Faulkner shot 44 percent from the floor and 54 percent from the free throw line. The Tornadoes shot 46 percent from the floor and 58 percent from the charity stripe in the win.
Amir Yusuf topped Talladega with 14 points and seven rebounds as one of three Tornadoes that scored in double figures. Perry paced Faulkner with 21 points.
C.J. Hines added nine points and 12 rebounds in the effort.
Faulkner (9-2, 1-1 SSAC) returns to action Saturday, Dec. 11 when it travels to Thomas.
