Halftime deadlock snapped by trio of Crusader goals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faith Pelletier-King's 33rd minute equalizer saw the Lady Eagles level with William Carey at the break, but the 2019 semifinalists burst with three goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half to hand Faulkner its second 4-1 loss to the Crusaders this season to open SSAC play.

Maria Corral Pinon looped a free kick into the top right corner off a free kick atop the 18 in the 17th minute to open the scoring. Faulkner answered back, capitalizing on its first chance of the game as a scramble set up by Nanako Omae off a set piece from Camila Parada fell to Pelletier-King with an open net in front of her. The Canadian forward, who drew the initial foul to set up the chance, made no mistake easily burying the effort.

Kauany Sousa's entrance into the contest at halftime proved to be the spark William Carey needed to knock off the battle-tested Faulkner side. Sousa got on the end of a Laia Sedo cross to score the eventual game-winner off her head in the 50th. Seven minutes later, her drop pass to Kaylie Agostine turned into a knucking rainbow from near the touch line to the opposite side netting. 30 seconds later, Camila Pescator would bury the penalty kick to seal the game.

Megan White had 13 saves in the loss including a brilliant kick save in the 58th minute.

The Lady Eagles will travel to Gwinnett, Ga. to take on the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies Thursday at 4 p.m. central.
