Lady Eagles sweep Blue Mountain in SSAC home opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner put together a doubleheader sweep of Blue Mountain College Friday night, moving its SSAC record to 4-0.

FAULKNER 2, BLUE MOUNTAIN 1

The Lady Eagles opened the scoring in the bottom of the second of game one when Tara Ammons doubled to drive in Ashton Fielding. The lead stuck until the bottom of the fifth when Shelbie Burbage singled in Madison McKee to move it to 2-0.

Blue Mountain cut the deficit in half with one out in the top of the seventh when Cheyenne Childress drove in Rylee Gresham to make it 2-1. Faulkner pitcher Nicole Morrison then induced a pair of groundouts to end the game.

Brianna Cagle had two hits in the game while Burbage, Fielding, Ammons, Colby Adams and Caity Jo Lee each had a hit in the game.

Morrison struck out six in a complete game effort, scattering four hits and four walks while allowing one earned run.

FAULKNER 10, BLUE MOUNTAIN 2

In the second game of the day, Faulkner scored in each of the first four innings one the way to a 10-2 win. Ammons singled in Taylor Eddy in the home half of the first to make it 1-0. The Lady Eagles moved it to 2-0 in the second when Burbage's single plated Jordan Boyd. Faulkner then hung three runs on the board in the bottom of the third.

Lee doubled in Ammons before Erika Mitchell then ripped a run-scoring double that plated Lee to make it 4-0. Mitchell later scored on a wild pitch to set it at 5-0. Ammons doubled in Eddy and Fielding in the fourth to make it 7-1.
Faulkner ended the game with the three-run sixth. Fielding singled home Eddy to make it 8-2. Kaileigh Harrison singled in Kendall Bennett to push it to 9-2 before Fielding scored on a wild throw to end it.

Julianna Thames worked six innings, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out two and allowing two earned runs.

Faulkner (11-5, 2-0 SSAC) returns to play Wednesday when it hosts Asbury University for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
