Lady Eagles plate 31 runs in doubleheader sweep

MARION, Ala. – Faulkner scored in eight of 10 innings during a Tuesday doubleheader as it swept Judson College 12-1 and 19-0.

FAULKNER 12, JUDSON COLLEGE 1

Faulkner scored one run in each of the first two innings of the opener before rallying four four in the third and six in the fourth for the 12-1 win. Shelbie Burbage singled to open the game before later swiping third base and scoring on an error for the 1-0 lead. The Lady Eagles doubled the lead in the second as Colby Adams singled and scored on a Brianna Cagle double

Ashton Fielding singled home Burbage in the third before Caity Jo Lee's hit drove in Taylor Eddy. Adams singled in Fielding before Madison McKee drove home Lee with a hit.

Faulkner's six-run rally in the fourth started with a single and stolen base from Burbage. Eddy singled in Burbage to move the lead to 7-0. Kendall Bennett followed with a two-run homer to stretch the advantage to 9-0. Adams singled in Fielding before Cagle's hit plated Tara Ammons. A hit-by-pitch on Kaleigh Harrison drove in Adams to cap the scoring for Faulkner.

Meagan Schwieterman (5-2) pitched a five-inning complete game with three strikeouts while scattering four hits and one earned run.

FAULKNER 19, JUDSON COLLEGE 0

The Lady Eagles wasted no time getting things started in the second game as they plated nine runs in the top of the first. Fielding singled Eddy for the 1-0 lead. Ammons doubled in Bennett and Fielding for the 3-0 advantage. Erika Mitchell's single drove in Ammons and Lee for the 5-0 lead. Burbage's single plated Mitchell and Jordan Boyd to make it 7-0. Bennett's single drove in Burbage before Fielding's hit plated Eddy.

Faulkner rallied for seven runs in the third inning. Bennett's sacrifice fly drove in Cagle to start the scoring in the frame. Harrison made it home on a wild pitch to set the lead at 11-0. A bases-loaded walk to Nicole Morrison drove in Markie Hicks for the 12-0 lead.

Mitchell followed with her first career homer for a grand slam that left Faulkner up 16-0. Faulkner added a run in the fourth as Fielding's grounder scored Harrison. Boyd's double in the fifth drove home Hannah Crabtree to make it 18-0. Cagle's double plated Mitchell to cap the scoring.

Julianna Thames (5-2) pitched a complete game two-hitter while striking out seven and issuing no walks for the win.

Faulkner (23-9) returns to play Friday at 2 p.m. when it hosts SSAC foe Brewton-Parker.
