Faulkner scores eight unanswered, strands eight in scoring position in split with Barons

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The number eight ruled the day at Wynn Field Faulkner scored eight unanswered to take a 9-5 win in game one before stranding eight in scoring position in a 2-1 game two loss to Brewton-Parker Friday afternoon in SSAC action.

Faulkner 9, Brewton-Parker 5

Trailing 5-1 in the third with a runner on second and two outs, Hal Wynn walked out to the circle and settled down Nicole Morrison who had surrendered three hits in the inning and six hits in two and two-thirds innings of work. Faulkner escaped the top half, stranding runners on second and third, and sparked a massive rally, scoring the next eight runs including four in the third and two in the fourth and fifth.

Shelbie Burbage's leadoff single and ensuing stolen base started the third. Taylor Eddy reached on an error and took second. The throw from the catcher misfired and allowed Burbage to score before Fielding's double brought in the left fielder. Tara Ammons plated Fielding with her first of two doubles in the contest and Colby Adams scored the designated player to knot the game at five.

Morrison forced a one-two-three fourth before Fielding's two-out double drove in Bennett for the go-ahead run after the first two batters grounded out. Ammons scored Fielding the next at-bat.

In the fifth, Caity Jo Lee drew a leadoff walk before getting the second on a sac bunt from Adams and third on a wild pitch. Lee scored off another wild pitch and Eddy drove in Brianna Cagle who reached on a walk.

The Lady Eagles would hold on to give Morrison her fourth win allowing four earned. Ammons ended game one with the Wendy's batting line of four-for-four. Burbage had three hits and Bennett and Fielding all had two with four at-bats each. Ammons and Fielding had two RBI each.

Brewton-Parker 2, Faulkner 1

Faulkner had several opportunities to rally from two down in the second, but could not find the timely hit as it dropped just its fifth home game against the Barons in program history.

Meagan Schwieterman struck out the side in the first but ran into trouble in the second. With two outs and a runner on second, three straight walks plated the first run for Brewton-Parker before Abby Cox drove in the eventual game-winner the next at-bat.

Jordan Boyd's single led off the fourth and got to second on an error by the shortstop off Cagle's contact to second as they tried to turn two. Kendall Bennett drew a bases-loaded walk to score the lone run for the Lady Eagles.

Faulkner estranged runners on second and third in the first, second and fourth innings and bases loaded in the third despite eight hits and three free passes.

Schwieterman fanned seven and allowed just three hits in the 115 pitch effort. Jordan Boyd had two hits in the contest.

The Lady Eagles welcome Middle Georgia for senior day Saturday at 1 p.m. The senior day festivities will begin before the game.
