Frias fans nine, Faulkner scores 10 to beat Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Antonio Frias did ace things again and the Faulkner offense continued its current hot streak in a 10-0 rout of SSAC foe Blue Mountain Thursday. The Eagles saw their "K-King" prove dominant on the hill again as Frias fanned nine Toppers while scattering two hits and two walks in the complete game effort. The performance moved the Panamanian Punch-Out Prince to 8-0 on the season while lowering his ERA to 2.33 and his batting average against to .134 as he faced the minimum in four of his seven innings of work.

For its part, the Faulkner lineup wasted little time getting the senior southpaw a lead. Sam Anthony coaxed a leadoff walk, moved to second on a free pass to Jonathan Villa and stole third. Alex Arauz obliged the situation with a sacrifice fly to center, plating Anthony for the 1-0 advantage.

The Eagles began to pull away from Blue Mountain with a four-run second. Tommy Reyes-Cruz started the inning with a walk and advanced on Justice Lucas's single and a walk to Anthony. Villa drove a ball to right field for a sacrifice fly to plate Reyes-Cruz and put Faulkner up 2-0. Lucas scored on a delayed double steal before Ross belted a two-run homer to left for the 5-0 advantage.

The game stayed there until Justin Lara's squeeze bunt plated Reyes-Cruz in the fifth for the 6-0 lead. Lucas all but put the game away in the sixth when he launched a grand slam to center to leave Faulkner up 10-0.

Faulkner (28-5, 13-3 SSAC) resumes play in the series Friday at noon with the back end of the doubleheader slated for 2:30 p.m.
