Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner knocked off top-seeded William Carey Friday morning at the SSAC Volleyball Championship 3-1 (25-23, 8-25, 25-21, 25-22) coming up strong in the big moments again to advance to the winner's bracket championship game at 3 p.m. against No. 2 seed Mobile.
The match between teams who split the regular season series started with 13 ties and six ties before
Alysa Vinson's kill gave Faulkner set point at 24-23. The Crusaders turned to their first-team all-conference player in Jordan Stephens to knot it back up, but the SSAC Player of the Year and her second-team all-SSAC teammate Vinson rejected the attack and took the first set.
After an eight point second set, Faulkner stared down a 20-16 deficit in the third before closing on a 9-1 run with six kills and a block. Tied at 22 in the fourth set,
Alexis McInroy's kill proceeded two Mia Hague attack errors to end the match.
Barnes finished the match with 14 kills, two solo blocks and seven assisted. Vinson led the team with 15 kills and added 14 digs.
Jordan Stewart and
Sarah-Gracen Watts also had 14 kills. McInroy led the team with 17 digs. Stephens led the floor with 22 kills for the Crusaders. The Eagles blocked 11 William Carey attacks.
