Five 2021 Opening Round teams in Battle at the Beach Field

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The eight-team field for the third annual Battle at the Beach in Panama City, Fla. is set and features five NAIA Opening Round teams and last season's ACCA National Champion. Squads from six different states will descend upon the Billy Harrison Field House at Gulf Coast State College Nov. 22-24.

Due to two pairs of conference opponents in the field, the three day event will feature a showcase day on Monday and two four-team brackets on Tuesday and Wednesday to prevent the league foes from facing each other.

The highly-competitive field features two teams returning to the white sand beaches in hosts Faulkner (Ala.) and Red River Athletic Conference side LSU Alexandria. The duo have been in the previous two Battles with Faulkner undefeated in the six games while the lone blemish for the Generals in their six battles is the dramatic 2019 semifinal game against the Eagles. Faulkner swept the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships and reached the NAIA Round of 16. LSUA finished second in the Red River Athletic Conference regular season and semifinalists in the tournament before reaching the Opening Round in the NAIA National Tournament.

Conference rivals of those two will be in the field, each for the first time. RRAC regular season and tournament champions LSU Shreveport will join Faulkner in the Bay Bracket. LSUS reached the Opening Round as the top seed in their bracket and third-ranked in the country. Loyola (La.) enters the field in the Gulf Bracket against LSU-Alexandria. The Wolf Pack reached the SSAC semifinals and ended as the SSAC West's runner-up before reaching the NAIA quarterfinals.

The other first round matchup in the Gulf Bracket features Science and Arts (Okla.) and Brescia (Ky.) The Drovers won the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament title and earned a top seed in the Opening Round. Brescia looks to use the Battle at the Beach as a spark plug in rebounding from a learning 2019-20 campaign.

The field wraps up with Bay Bracket sides Rust (Miss.) and Baptist Bible (Mo.) The Bearcats make their first trip to the beach after finishing fourth in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season. Baptist Bible College enters the field in their first year of NCCAA membership after winning the Association of Christian College Athletics National Championship.

Loyola and Baptist Bible tip off Monday's showcase day at 12:30 p.m. central. Faulkner and Brescia play in the second game, LSUA matches up with Rust in the third game and the day ends with LSUS and Science and Arts.

Tuesday's bracket play will start at noon with the Gulf Bracket as Loyola and LSUA open the day and Science and Arts takes on Brescia. LSUS and Rust close the first round of the Bay Bracket after Baptist Bible plays Faulkner.

Wednesday will see the third place game of the Gulf and Bay Brackets, respectively, followed by the championship games in the same order starting at 10 a.m.
