MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Shorthanded, Faulkner fell shy of a sharp-passing Life side 3-1 Friday night at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
Faith Pelletier-King's penalty in the 38th sparked hope for the Lady Eagles, but a brilliant goal from the touchline by Rebecca Noren in the 55th put the Running Eagles in cruise control for the final 35 minutes.
The Canadian forward composedly buried the penalty into the bottom right corner, freezing Emily Hounsell for the only blemish on her fantastic night in net for Life. The penalty was drawn by
Annabel Cuthbert who dribbled around the keeper before being brought down by her. The goal brought the match to a 2-1 halftime score.
Noren seemingly crossed the ball, but it hung up in the air and fell perfectly into the side netting under the bar to finalize the scoring and break the rhythm Faulkner had following its first home goal of the season.
Just 17 minutes in, Faulkner faced a 2-0 deficit with several key pieces unavailable--including a couple usual starters-- as Life continued to pepper the net.
Reagan Embry recorded 11 saves in the match on 25 total shots to keep her team in the contest. The Lady Eagles mustered just three shots, with two on target including the penalty.
Faulkner looks to bounce back when it hosts NCAA Division I side Alabama State Sunday at 2 p.m. The reigning SWAC champions will be the first D1 foe to come to Faulkner's campus since 2000 when softball welcomed then Troy State.
