Over .500 with fifth straight win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Momentum kept rolling for the Lady Eagles to the fifth straight win Saturday afternoon, toppling Middle Georgia 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-16) in Tine Davis Gymnasium, starting conference undefeated.

Faulkner (8-7, 2-0 SSAC) trailed just three times in a set all day for a total of 10 points as it went above .500 for the first time this season. Haven Owings's first kill of a team-high 12 on the day sparked a 9-1 run to take control of the first set. Back-to-back kills from Julia Rice started a string of four consecutive errors from the Knights to end the first set on a 6-0 Faulkner run.

Eight consecutive points flipped a 12-9 deficit into a five point lead with a block from Brianna Dukes and Mallory Black, an ace from Hannah Bryan and a kill from Dukes in the second set. While Middle Georgia brought it back to two, Dukes delivered again with a kill starting a three point cushion stretch to 20-15.

Down 2-0 in the third, Faulkner closed out the match off a spark from a 13-2 run. The lead would never get below five as the squad hit 17 kills in the set.

Alyssa Stagner ended one dig shy of a double-double with 31 assists. Rice had 10 kills and Alysa Vinson led the floor with 19 digs. Despite tallying 59 digs as a team, just Vinson ended with double figures defensively as Jordan Stewart and Bryan joined Stagner with nine. Dukes had eight kills and had three blocks shared with Black.

The Lady Eagles begin a five-match conference road trip against Talladega (4-7, 0-2 SSAC) as one of three unbeaten teams after the first weekend of league play. The first SSAC meeting against the Tornadoes is set for Friday Sept. 24 at 6 p.m.
