BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Eagles knew that Friday night's game against DIvision III Birmingham-Southern--that had entered the night winning nine of its last 11 games--with a reshuffled lineup would be a challenge, but an early red card handed Faulkner a 4-1 loss.
Down 1-0, a straight red on
Felipe Pineiro saw Faulkner play a man down for the final 70 minutes of the contest. The ejection was the third in 40 minutes of play over a two-match stretch for the Eagles. The Panthers made Faulkner pay with a goal 10 minutes later before turning two in quickly in the second half.
Guilherme Mondaini's 71st minute goal proved to be consolation as the four-goal deficit down a man was too much to overcome.
Both teams ended with 10 shots and three saves, but the Panthers put three more on target, deciding the contest.
Faulkner (0-4) travels to Mobile to face Spring Hill Monday afternoon at 1 p.m.
