TALLADEGA, Ala. - A solid defensive effort lifted the Eagles past Talladega (0-4, 0-2 SSAC) in a 2-0 victory for the first SSAC win of the season Saturday afternoon in a road contest as
Antoine Marques tied the program's career goal scoring record.
Marques opened the scoring with the eventual match winner in the 30th minute for his 18th career goal and eighth of the season, burying the rebound from
Aleksa Dorovic's shot. In the 86th minute,
Gabriel Dias scored the insurance goal as
Ilan Tabet centered the cross from Marques.
As the offense peppered the net with 13 shots on target on 17 attempts, the defense kept
Nic Fischer uninvolved for the first 68 minutes before allowing Talladega to shoot its first shot. The German keeper stopped all three shots on target in the shutout.
The Eagles are 4-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in SSAC play and enter a stretch of four straight ranked opponents starting with its first home game since August against No. 18 Life (7-0-1, 1-0-1 SSAC) Thursday night.
