Faulkner splits 3-0 results on weekend road trip

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner split a pair of SSAC road 3-0 decisions Friday and Saturday dropping the first contest to Blue Mountain 25-10, 25-10, 25-16 before sweeping Stillman 25-4, 25-18, 25-14.

BLUE MOUNTAIN 3, FAULKNER 0

The Toppers controlled every facet of the match Friday night with 10 aces and eight blocks while hitting .229 and holding the Lady Eagles to a negative hitting percentage for the first time since March 25, 2021.

Faulkner took a 5-4 lead in the first set, but BMC pulled a 11-1 rally together to pull ahead for good. That was the last lead the Lady Eagles held against the team tied atop the SSAC standings, currently holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over William Carey.

The loss was just the second time the Lady Eagles have lost consecutive matches.

FAULKNER 3, STILLMAN 0

The Lady Eagles took care of business against Stillman to snap the two match skid. Faulkner held Stillman to just seven kills in all three sets including zero in the first set.

After cruising through the opening set, Faulkner seemed to have the second in cruise control, but the Tigers roared back with a run to cut the Lady Eagle advantage from eight to four but Faulkner closed the set out to take a 2-0 lead. Large runs to open and close the third set ended the match and brought the Lady Eagles to 17-8 overall and 7-4 in league play.

Faulkner travels across town to Huntington to take on Tuskegee at 5:30 and the Hawks at 7:30 Wednesday night.
