MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (4-8-1, 1-4-1 SSAC) concluded its fourth straight match against a top-20 opponent with a 4-0 loss to No. 4 Mobile (11-1-, 5-1 SSAC) Saturday at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium despite holding the Rams largely in check for most of the match as a couple quick goals turned the game on its head.
The national runners-up last year scored their first two goals less than 80 seconds apart starting in the 51st minute and their second two just 47 seconds apart in the 65th.
Faulkner had a couple good looks from their top goal scorer as
Antoine Marques went one-on-one with the keeper in the 24th minute but the charge was perfect and thwarted the attack. The only other shot on goal for Faulkner came in the 71st when Marques's floater was pushed away with the keeper's fingertips.Â
Michalis Jackson saved four shots in the loss.Â
The Eagles are tied for sixth with four points for the final playoff spot with Middle Georgia who has a game in hand. Both teams will face Brewton-Parker after facing each other and the Knights will still face Dalton State.Â
The Eagles and Knights face off Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in a pivotal matchup for both team's postseason chances.
