Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Faulkner's foray into the NCAA Division I FCS ranks Saturday resulted in a 70-0 loss to the division's No. 8 team University of the Incarnate Word.
The Cardinals scored their first touchdown with 10:54 to go in the first quarter before adding four other end zone visits in the opening frame. Faulkner trailed 35-0 going into the second quarter as UIW added three more touchdowns in the frame for a 56-0 lead.
The coaches mutually agreed to truncated quarters in the second half with the third period being shortened to 12 minutes and the fourth dropping to 10.
UIW notched a touchdown at the 10:58 mark of the third quarter to push the lead to 63-0. UIW added one more score with 13 seconds left in the game to set the final margin.
Faulkner notched 14 first downs in the contest, running 61 plays and covering 154 yards.
UIW tallied 22 first downs, rushing the ball 21 times for 116 yards and completing 24 passes for 451 yards.
Jaiveyon Tucker highlighted the offense with 40 yards on three receptions.
Drexlan Allen averaged 4.5 yards per carry on six rushes.
Caden Davis punted 12 times for a total of 422 yards.
Josh Taylor paced the defense with six total tackles.
The contest marked the first against an opponent from the FCS ranks since Sept. 6, 2008 when the Eagles played Samford. Faulkner's last contest outside of the NAIA ranks was Sept. 17, 2011 against Huntingdon. The contest is also only the second game in the state of Texas in program history. The prior occurrence was Nov. 10, 2007.
Faulkner (3-5, 2-3 MSC) returns to action Saturday, Oct. 29 when it hosts Cumbarland University at 1:30 p.m.
