MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner's offense clicked and cashed in thrice Saturday in a senior day win over Brewton-Parker to secure a place in the SSAC tournament with a 3-1 victory at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
The Lady Eagles started the match on the attacking foot but couldn't get a chance to fall until the 35th minute when
Elodie Metho broke into space down the right wing and squared a ball for
Remmie Ferla to calmly and firmly tuck into the net for her fifth goal of the season and Metho's team-best fifth assist.
Kelsie Stapler's ninth save of the first half for the Barons spilled out for a corner and Faulkner cashed in on the mistake as
Alessia Confalonieri rocketed a half volley from the top of the box into the top right corner for her 10th goal of the year.
Faulkner continued to press for a third goal, but a counter attack proved fruitful for the Barons as a deflected shot from Beata Chako redirected into the net in the 70th minute to make things a little nervy for Faulkner with the lead cut to 2-1.
As the Barons pushed for the equalizer,
Annabel Cuthbert received a pass from Ferla and took a brilliant touch into more space for the match-sealing goal with 44 seconds to play. Cuthbert now has 11 goals on the season.
Faulkner outshot the Barons 34-7 and placed 20 shots on target. Keila Cardeiro saved 5 shots in the win.
Faulkner now awaits results around the league next week to see where and when they will play a first round match. The Lady Eagles are currently tied with Life for third with Life owning the tiebreak. If Mobile draws with or loses at Blue Mountain Thursday afternoon, Faulkner will host the Rams in the first round. With a Mobile win, Faulkner will travel either Life or Mobile for the first round, depending on Life's result with Brewton-Parker Thursday.
